Day 1:Breakfast; The Beginning of a Healthy Journey

0

Hi everyone,

Today I am embarking on a new journey in my life, the journey of Eating Healthy” A lot of people associate healthy eating only with weight loss and for others, healthy food is bland, and not very sumptuous food.

So let me clear two things, I am going to be eating healthy not because I want to lose weight and no I am not obese.

But yes I wish to tone up my body and become healthier and more active.

As a mother of 2 little boys, I find it very hard at times to take care of myself and especially of my diet.

Sometimes I just can’t resist the temptation to enjoy nuggets and fries with them or have 2 scoops of ice cream.

Also, I am a big foodie. I love biryani, pizza, burgers, nihari, halwa puri and what not.

I mean who wouldn’t like it?

But the only problem with these foods is that they have more carbs and less protein and other components.

Although I won’t be totally cutting off these foods, but yes I am going to improvise my daily eating routine.

So without any more delay, I will talk about my Healthy Breakfast.

1.Grapefruit juice

Grapefruit is an amazing fruit and yes it really helps in weight loss. At 10:30 am I had a freshly squeezed grapefruit juice. Although it was just half a glass, it tasted really good.

Grapefruit doesn’t taste very sweet, it has a tangy, bitter and sweet taste. But this one tasted really fresh and sweet.

Studies suggest that grapefruit juice consumed before meals works most effectively. A study at Vanderbilt University had 85 participants follow a low-calorie diet for two weeks. These same participants then continued the diet but added grapefruit juice, water or half a grapefruit before each meal for the next 12 weeks. When the premeal snack was added, participants naturally ate 20 to 29 percent fewer calories overall without reporting greater hunger, showed a study published in a 2011 issue of Nutrition and Metabolism. Participants lost an average of 7 percent of their body weight over the study period.via How to Drink Grapefruit Juice to Lose Weight

Also there are many surprising health benefits of grapefruits like it helps you stay young, reduces stress,  fights gum disease (I really need this one). Many studies have suggested that increasing consumption of plant foods like grapefruit decreases the risk of obesity, diabetes, heart disease and overall mortality while promoting a healthy complexion, increased energy, and overall lower weight.via Grapefruit: Health Benefits, Facts, Research

So I bought a bunch of grapefruits from Hyperstar. It was Rs.119 per kg I got around 5 kg since I will be drinking it each day.

These are really fresh and very tasty.

2. Boiled Eggs, Oatmeal

My earlier breakfast used to be anda paratha. Hmm…. although it still is one of my favorite breakfast, its not a very healthy choice itself. Because the egg is fried and paratha is basically loaded carb with oil. So besides taste, there are not many nutritional benefits.

The thing with oatmeal is that I love it only because it makes me feel full for a longer time. I feel hungry much later which is such a big plus, because by the time I pick kids from school I feel so hungry. But with oatmeal, I feel hungry around 3.

Oatmeal is a healthier option for breakfast for so many reasons, like:-

1. BOOSTS ENERGY

Oatmeal is a carbohydrate and protein-rich source that provides calories and energy.

2. PROTECTS SKIN

This power food has been used as a soothing agent to relieve itch and irritation while also providing an array of benefits for the skin. Oatmeal is able to normalize the skin’s pH, which can relieve itchy and uncomfortable skin.

I used the regular Quaker oats which are easily available. I prepared it n regular olpers milk.

Sorry I am not a big fan of low-fat milk or skim milk, so that’s one thing I cant compromise on.

Boiled eggs

Eggs are an excellent source of protein and they are one of the cheapest sources0 of protein too. Boiled eggs have numerous nutritional benefits such as

1. Egg keep you feeling full much longer than cereal or toast.
The protein and fat in eggs help sustain your energy levels, keeping you satisfied for longer and reducing the need for a mid-morning snack.

2. Eggs assist weight loss.
This is a follow-on benefit from keeping you satiated. Studies have shown that people who eat eggs for breakfast are more likely to lose weight than those who ate bagels.

3. Eggs are a great source of protein.
Whole eggs are one of a complete sources of protein, meaning eggs contain all the essential amino acids which we must get from our diets.

4. Eggs tend to be relatively inexpensive.
Compared to other high protein foods such as red meat, even free range eggs are more budget friendly.

5. Eggs aren’t going to make your cholesterol worse.
While it’s true that eggs do contain a significant amount of cholesterol, the old formula of the cholesterol you eat impacting on your blood cholesterol levels has been disproven. So there’s no need to worry about eating eggs increasing your risk for heart disease.

6. Eggs help with brain development and memory.
Choline, an essential nutrient found in eggs, stimulates brain development and function. It has also been linked with increasing memory retention and recalls as well as improving alertness.

7. Eggs protect your eyesight.
Two antioxidants, lutein, and zeaxanthin, are present in eggs and have been linked to protecting eyes from damage related to UV exposure. They have also been associated with reducing the likelihood of developing cataracts in old age. via 7 Reasons You Should Eat Eggs for Breakfast

I usually but the golden eggs from Hyperstar and a dozen costs for Rs.150 per dozen.

I like these eggs because they are cleaner and their yolk is orangish yellow as compared to the regular eggs from the milk shop.

This will be it for today, and I will share more information about my lunch, snack and dinner later.
