Does anyone know what were the old TV sets called when we used to be little, the tv sets with a big hump and V-shaped antennas?

Trust me I didn’t know either, because when I was little a tv was a tv but not until I grew up I learned that there is an LCD, Plasma, LED and OLED TV. And of course, there are many improved variations still to come.

Oh yes answering the above question, well those big rounded TV boxes were called CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) TV.

Since every technology is now becoming smart technology so are TVs.

When I was little we were made to write an essay on “Do You Think TV is Rightly Called the Idiot Box” sounds pretty historic, since now, TV is not at all the idiot box because by far it’s the central piece of technology which does bring the family together unlike smartphones and other devices which only require one set of eyes.

And if you are a family person like me and enjoy watching TV with your loved ones then buying the right smart tv is a pretty good investment. And when you have a latest technology smart TV you surely enjoy the clear picture quality with amazing sound effects. After all, a TV in the lounge or in the bedroom is one of the most easiest and enjoyable fun experience.

1.Leading Brands of Smart TVs

Although we now see many new companies launching smart TVs, the leading brands which have been in the tv industry for a very long time are LG, Sony, Panasonic, Philips, and Samsung.

Currently, I have a Samsung smart TV which is pretty good so far and it supports all the apps including an HDMI port through which I connect my phone and iPad to the TV and enjoy Youtube.

Samsung

Samsung was actually the first company to introduce the smart tv, enabling features to download apps and receive information from the internet while using it as a conventional TV too.

LG

LG is mostly known for its sleek design and ease of use.It is also rated as one of the best friendly user tv.

Sony

Although Sony Tv was considered as the favorite TVs by our elders, but when it comes to its smart options it’s not that smart, because you can not stream video from the TV to your portable devices. Also, it does not support Voice and gesture controls.

2.Warranty

When you invest in  a pricey product you need to look for the warranty. Because after all, any technology can crash down so no matter how confident you are about the product, warranties always come in handy.

Although when it comes to smart TVs they usually have extended the warranty. Reason they are rarely used. But whenever buying a smart tv always make sure about the warranty.

Also, some credit card companies offer additional coverage on prices, so do check it with your provider

3.Screen Size

Depending on where you want to place that tv you need to check out the screen size. It’s always a good idea to do some pre-measurements of your wall and then check out the measurements of the screen size. A very common size of screens these days is between 55 and 65 inches.

Also, it depends on what is your sitting distance from the tv. Ideally, the distance between your sitting position and the screen should be three times than the height of your screen.

4.Picture Quality, in other Words, HDR

Do you remember those old burst pixels, which would totally fade the picture quality? Well, that’s something we never want when we are watching Avatar or Star Wars with our family right?

So picture quality is definitely one of the main features when buying a smart Tv. HDR stands for high dynamic range and its the ability to deliver more colors, more contrast levels, and increased brightness.

An advanced feature is the Dolby Vision. Some TVs are Ultra HD Premium-compatible (like Samsung), others are Dolby Vision-compatible (like Vizio) and some are compatible with both standards (like LG).

So a good idea when buying a smart tv is not just to buy a set for its HDR feature and if money is not an issue opt for a Dolby vision.

4.Keep an Eye for Deals

Smart TVs can range from Rs. 20,000 to Rs.2 lakh and even higher. So whatever budget you have to set, you must keep an eye for deals. This time is a pretty good time because Black Friday deals and other promotions are in full swing towards the end of November throughout December.

5.Just Like Your Phone TV has apps

Smart Tv means that you must be able to play anything on it. Be it the conventional TV or internet streaming. What you watch on your laptop and phone you must be able to watch it on your big screen and vice versa.

So with such high demands of customers, a smart TV must have all the necessary apps enabled. Like the HDMI, Chromecast, Sound Bar, Game console.

Once you have decided which TV to buy, do some beforehand preps before installing it, like clearing up that wall, and setting up an electric connection near to it. Also placing a shelf below the TV is a good idea as you can place remotes or other devices on it.
