At Last, The Secret to Himalayan Salt is Revealed!

3

It’s been a while since I and my hubby are trying to revamp our kitchen cabinets with healthier/organic ingredients. And it was in the revamping process that we thought about one of the basic ingredients in food that we use almost every day and in every food item.

SALT

Nothing is ever complete without salt, there are so many cultural proverbs related to salt and its also considered as something very sacred and is highly respected.

Salt adds flavor, gives a taste, adds value, credibility and most importantly it gives nutrition to our body.

The basic chemical formula of salt is NaCl and when broken up inside the body the components, are Na (sodium ) and Cl (chloride) which are the main electrolytes of the body and give the energy to perform various functions.

According to a survey, an average person consumes around 1.5 tsp(3,400 mg ) of salt daily when the recommended dose is no more than 2,300 mg of salt daily.

Now, what is the buzz with all this salt, and the different kinds of salts available in the market? Iodized, noniodized, kosher, sea salt and then something, very new that I noticed on the ingredients counter at Hyperstar was Pink Salt…..

More and more health researchers and experts are boasting about the health benefits of Organic Food, and how an organic lifestyle affects our hormone level our mood, and even affects our genetics.

So with one of the most basic and common ingredients that we use daily, I could not go wrong. After doing some research on SALT, I found out about Himalayan Pink Salt.

Can You Beleive the Numerous Benefits?

Once upon a time (a couple of hundreds of millions of years ago) crystallized sea salt beds, now deep within the Himalayans, were covered by lava. Aside from being kept it in a pristine environment that has been surrounded by snow and ice year round, the lava is thought to have protected the salt from modern-day pollution leading to the belief that Himalayan Pink salt is the purest salt to be found on earth. It is now hand-mined from the mountains and brought to the culinary market.

Why Pink?

Detoxify

Himalayan salt has been used to help detoxify the body in the form of a brine treatment.

Regulate Blood Pressure

As a natural source of sodium, Himalayan salt provides an essential mineral for healthy bodily functions. Sodium helps to regulate blood volume and thus blood pressure, as well as helping to control muscle contractions, nerve transmissions and heart functions. Sodium can be found naturally in a number of foods, but it can also be consumed as added salt, as in the case of Himalayan salt.

Rich in Minerals

Himalayan salt is widely touted for its mineral content, containing 84 minerals in total. In addition to sodium, Himalayan salt is relatively high in iron, magnesium, phosphorus, calcium, potassium and chloride. It also contains traces of boron, fluoride, iodine, zinc, selenium and copper, all of which are necessary for bodily health. As a naturally occurring salt, Himalayan salt contains all these minerals without chemical processing or refinement. Because it is harvested naturally, Himalayan salt’s mineral benefits are available regardless of what form the salt is consumed as. Himalayan salt is most commonly found as coarse grains, fine grains, or large blocks which can be used as serving platters that delicately “season” the food they serve.Via What Are the Health Benefits of Himalayan Salt?

And besides these, there are many, many more health benefits of Himalayan Pink Salt.

Why Quit Table Salt or Iodized Salt?

Table salt causes the blood pressure to rise rapidly because the blood is attempting to move the toxic elements rapidly away from the heart. This is why doctors will often tell people with high blood pressure to stop intake of salt. Moreover, excessive table salt causes us to retain waters and other fluids

Table salt is particularly hard on both the circulatory system and nervous system. It also wreaks havoc on the delicate balance of the lymph system in the body. This salt is also highly addictive, as the more the body becomes used to the high levels of fake sodium, the more it craves it.via The Health Dangers of Table Salt

But What is the Secret of Himalayan Salt? The Secret that Most of The People Don’t Know

The One and Only Region from where the Himalayan Pink Salt is mined is the Khewra Salt  Khewra Salt Mine in Khewra, Jhelum District, Punjab,

Himalayan salt is rock salt or halite from the Punjab region of Pakistan. It is mined at the Khewra Salt Mine in Khewra, Jhelum District, Punjab, which is situated in the foothills of the Salt Range hill system in the Punjab province of the Indo-Gangetic Plain. It is located approximately 190 miles (310 km) from the Himalayas, 160 miles (260 km) from Lahore, and 185 miles (298 km) from Amritsar, India.

So with such an amazingly, totally natural, organic, and extremely healthy  100 % original Pakistani Product available to us why opt for other unhealthy options of salt?

In fact, I suggest we should be discussing more and more, about this since not many people even know that the Himalayan salt that all the health researchers are talking about is something totally a product of Pakistan.

Currently, there is just one company Shan foods who are packaging and distributing Himalayan Salt in the market and it’s also not a very commonly sold item.

Since 5 months back I bought one packet of pink salt and then after one month I couldn’t find it again and it wasn’t available for at least 2 months.

Also its only available in the big supermarkets like Hyperstar and not in other smaller stores.

My main purpose of writing this post is to spread awareness among other Pakistanis about the treasure that we have within our country and how most of us don’t even know about it.

I hope that more and more companies start investing in Himalayan salt and make it available to a much wider market!
